This newly created position signals the university’s strategic realignment of functions that recruit, onboard and support students throughout their matriculation.

In doing so, he will devise a comprehensive strategy centered around enhancing the student experience and the university’s academic reputation.

University leaders anticipate the unified enrollment management umbrella to bring greater efficiency and overall effectiveness to recruiting, accepting, enrolling and graduating students.

“Under Joseph Montgomery’s leadership as our new vice president for enrollment management and student success, we look forward to Tuskegee University becoming an even greater destination of choice for students nationally and internationally,” said President Lily D. McNair. “His thoughtful and careful attention to the needs of current and future students is sure to result in great strides in increasing our enrollment, retention and graduation rates.”

For the past six years, Montgomery has served as director of higher education services for the College Board, a membership-based advocacy association comprised of 6,000-plus educational institutions and serving more than 7 million students worldwide through college readiness and student success programs. In this role, Montgomery has advised chief enrollment officers at universities throughout the southern U.S. on matters relating to admissions, financial aid, registration, student success indicators and other enrollment services.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Voorhees College and a master’s from North Carolina A&T University.

Montgomery and his wife Tonisha, chief academic advisor for Virginia Tech’s Department of Computer Science, have three children: Sade, a sophomore at North Carolina A&T University studying animal science; Chandler, a middle-schooler and active basketball player, and Jaxson, an elementary school student whose interests include reading and computer coding.
